4 Cosmetic Concerns a Smile Makeover Can Address

A smile makeover is a set of cosmetic dental procedures performed to improve the overall appearance of a person’s smile, and cosmetic dentists may recommend it to patients for a variety of reasons. It is helpful to understand concerns that can be addressed by smile makeover treatment.

Reasons to consider a smile makeover

Most cosmetic imperfections can be treated during the smile makeover process, including teeth stains, alignment issues, damaged teeth, worn-down teeth and missing teeth. The following is an overview of four of the more common reasons cosmetic dentists recommend smile makeover treatment to address concerns.

Stained teeth

There are a variety of specific treatments cosmetic dentists offer as a part of a smile makeover to fix teeth stains, including professional, in-office teeth whitening and dental veneers. A bright smile of pearly whites is typically far more attractive, and the results can last for a long time with proper smile makeover aftercare. In most instances of minor stains, in which the enamel is still strong and in good condition, a whitening procedure is likely enough, whereas veneers or dental crowns might be necessary for severe stains in which the enamel is severely weakened or eroded.

Teeth misalignments

Issues with teeth alignment are a common reason individuals seek a smile makeover. Misalignments can be categorized as crooked teeth, crowded teeth, gaps between teeth or jaw misalignment. Although each cosmetic dentist is unique, many offer teeth straightening through traditional braces or clear aligners, along with dental veneers to fix minor alignment issues. Fixing misalignments are typically just one part of a smile makeover process, and the cosmetic dentist may also recommend treatments such as professional whitening or teeth straightening.

Damaged teeth

Damaged teeth are another common concern that cosmetic dentists address during a patient’s smile makeover. Teeth damage is a broad term that refers to anything that may affect the overall condition and appearance of the tooth, such as chips, cracks and enamel erosion.

A smile makeover can also address worn-down teeth caused by teeth grinding, and treatment options such as dental veneers can lengthen teeth and cover up any cosmetic imperfections. Many cosmetic dentists also offer dental crowns to restore the size, shape and function of severely damaged teeth.

Missing teeth

Missing teeth often cause serious cosmetic concern and can cause the individual to become more insecure about the way they look. Fortunately, however, treatment options such as dental implants and implant-supported dentures can replace missing teeth long-term. If the smile makeover patient only has one missing tooth, a dental implant with a crown attachment might be recommended, whereas implant-supported bridges or implant-supported dentures are more ideal for multiple teeth replacement.
