Smile Makeover

Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments to Consider for Your Smile Makeover

A smile makeover involves several different cosmetic dentistry treatments performed by a cosmetic dentist to improve the appearance of a person’s smile. By understanding the various types of treatment options that are available, you can make an informed decision as to which options are most appropriate for you as a part of your smile makeover.

Effective treatments for a smile makeover

Every smile makeover patient has a unique experience as treatment is specifically tailored to their needs and preferences. However, there are certain procedures that are more common in the process. The following are four effective cosmetic treatments to consider when deciding on which treatments are best.

Teeth whitening

One of the most common treatments provided during a cosmetic smile makeover is professional, in-office teeth whitening performed by a cosmetic dentist. Over time, teeth accumulate plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to teeth discoloration. A professional teeth whitening procedure involves brightening the patient’s smile and removing any stains that develop on the surface of teeth. The results of professional teeth whitening are far more effective and last much longer than over-the-counter whitening kits, which many cosmetic dentists do not recommend patients using.

Dental veneers

Dental veneers are sometimes referred to as “Hollywood teeth” due to their popularity among celebrities. They provide patients with a beautiful smile and can fix a range of cosmetic concerns, including severe teeth stains, minor misalignments, chips and cracks, worn-down teeth and gaps between teeth. Each dental veneer, which is a thin layer of porcelain material, is customized and perfectly fitted onto the existing tooth, protecting it from further damage and covering any cosmetic issues with the tooth’s appearance.

Teeth straightening options

Many cosmetic dentists also offer teeth straightening solutions such as traditional braces or clear aligners as a treatment option during a smile makeover. For many, fixing misalignments is the number one priority of a smile makeover, and the teeth-straightening solution is the primary reason for the smile makeover. Misalignments can be characterized in a variety of ways, and it could be in the form of crooked teeth, crowded teeth or gaps between teeth. In some instances where the misalignment is minor, dental veneers may be an option for teeth straightening as well, whereas braces or clear aligners are more ideal for moderate and severe misalignments.

Dental implants

Many cosmetic dentists also offer tooth replacement as a part of a smile makeover. Dental implants are one of the most popular forms of replacement as they preserve bone density and look. They also feel and function very similar to natural teeth. Dental implants work well for replacing a single missing tooth by attaching a crown, and they are also capable of replacing multiple missing teeth through implant-supported bridges or implant-supported dentures.
